... I installed a Debian system in arabic to test some things for our company and it works great.
The desktop environment of choice was KDE with some localisation packages and arabic true type fonts.
The result is a KDE mostly full translated into the arabic language with the use of arabic fonts and arabic regional distinctions.



As you can see in the screenshot (click to enlarge) almost everything is different. The tabs of the konqueror will be opened from the right to the left, the written stuff is from right to the left. If you type text in a text box of your browser the direction is also reversed.
The KDE start button is normally on the left side too by default. Not with localization. Also see the fonts on the desktop.
If you have a look at the konqueror menu you will see that also the menu is on the right side and with these nice arabic fonts.

But the best thing is that also the progress bar of OpenOffice will progress from the right to the left.

This is great, thanks to the people from arabeyes and the debian i18n lists for the effort to make this possible.
I think this is a wonderful thing and I guess that the implementation of localizations for a bunch of languages is not an easy task.

That was the first time I was very thankfull because of all the eyecandy in kde because without it would be unpossible to find a terminal emulator in the menu

Today I was at mobile.de which is a company owned by ebay.
My company sent me to them to help them with a project.
That is the definitive place you want to work at. Nice buros, flatscreens everywhere and the best thing is food and coffee for free and particulary ample. Mhm
And the chairs...just comfortable. Oh I love this company

ii we delay ii for hopefully 2 weeks or so cause garbeam is busy with wmii-3 release and the port of 9p to wmii and I am moving to my new flat.

But the code base is finish so I think is not too much work to be done before a devel release.

CDW is an ncurses-based frontend for cdrecord and mkisofs. It can handle audio and
data CD burning, through a CD image or directly from the files.

Looks very nice and the handling is quite good.

Yet another nightmare.

Today I told ak about some nice vim functions which are usefull for programmers (especially C) and it seems that not
everyone knows about them.

The first thing I would like to mention is % which jumps from an open brace to its matching close brace. It does work for for #ifdef #endif too (Of course they are considered as bad coding style).

gd is most usefull for me. I need it very often. It jumps to the declaration of the variable which is currently under the cursor. For example if your cursor is on ch=getch(); and you press ESC gd it will jump to char ch; and you will see that ch is a character.

* and # are very nice too cause they do a search for the word under the cursor, forward and backward.
gf can be used if you want to open a header file which is included without opening a new screen window or to go to the vim command line. It opens the file under the cursor so pressing it if you are on #include "foobar.h" will open foobar.h if it
is in the same directory.

Hope this helps, they are a must use for C programers
