Opera starts segfaulting with new X updates

Today I experienced segfaults when I try starting opera (yeah it's unfree, closed-source, but better than firefox ; )
If you experience something like this:
zsh: segmentation fault opera
Then this might be interesting for you. Opera stopped working with new X libs (I had my dist-upgrade today, but this problem is not Debian specific) and starts coredumping.
The opera desktop team released a hotfix for this which works (at least for me).

UPDATE:
There is a hotfix2 now. The Opera team writes "A few users reported some sideeffects". I don't know what sideeffect is exactly here but I noticed random crashes with the hotfix. I guess that's what they wanted to say

Another workaround should be to set the color depth in xorg.conf to 16 but that also sucks. From what I know so far is some kind of unicode issue. So yeah it's unfree, closed-source and you have to wait a bit for a fix

I have a few reasons why not using firefox anymore.
- Firefox sucks on slower systems, if you have a big desktop tower you'll have no problem, if you open 50 Tabs in firefox and you just have 512 MB Ram you'll have a problem in firefox.
- Opera ships alot of cool Features I just get with extensions and the extension model of firefox is one of the biggest mistakes in my eyes. It is absolutly broken security if you install thousand extensions from an untrusted source (yes pretty much everyone can upload extensions which sound cool).
- Opera is faster when it comes to websites
- Opera has support for resuming a session since ages (Firefox since 2.0).
- I won't use software where the interface is just defined via XML.
- Opera has all the cool features since ages

Thanks for the heads-up on this - going to be prepared before running any updates.
Also as for why Opera is better:
1) more built in functionality (sessions, mouse gestures, tab management)
2) better at memory usage despite all of the extras being built in:
