What we really need..

... Is a website to collect information about software. Not like freshmeat is doing already.
We have lots of talented people knowing different programming languages available and on the other side alot of people
needing a specific kind of software.

I don't have as much spare time and money as it would need to found such a project. But please if someone has (and I think there are people who have got),
found this project, list needed projects with description and give those os/fs programmers a new hobby.

What kind of information? The rewritten contents of any book ever published about it?
And about what software? Everything from assembler to games?

ich denke Pro-linux.de hat mit seiner Programm-Datenbank dazu die ersten Ansaetze und Ideen umgesetzt

I think what is needed is just what freshmeat provides for existing projects.
A categorie, the purpose, maybe design notes, features.
I mean its like I would write I would need a pdf viewer for comand line like xpdf with the same features apart from image support maybe. Everything yes... Sure there are ideas which wont be implemented, if I someone would write: oh i need a 3d ego shooter similar to quake4... but it could be also a place for new ideas and new concepts. Maybe some kind of wiki?
@sascha: Pro-Linux.de only includes existing projects!!!!

Well, my first entry would be "a button that reads 'do what I want, not what I say'"
